Let me introduce myself. My name is Kadie Kelly and I have been a
single parent in Oakland for 5 years. I hold a master’s degree in
public policy from Mills College and my professional background is in
policy analysis and advocacy. I have worked with several notable
nonprofit and government organizations in the bay area. This year I have
launched the Oakland Single Parents' Network - with a goal of creating
the first nonprofit agency whose focus is solely on single parenting
issues.
I strongly believe increasing the social connectedness of single parents
to each other improves the quality of life for everyone involved. To
this end, in March of 2010 I began: 1) holding weekly picnics in the
park for single parents and their families, 2) collaborating with other
nonprofits and experts to provide workshops for single parents, 3)
organizing members to attend each others’ court hearings and
participate in our babysitting share, and 4) recruiting local small
businesses and professionals to participate in our Single Parent
Discount Card program.
Our accomplishment so far are as follows: We have recruited 25 card
carrying OSPN members, held one “Taking Control of Your Life”
workshop which was co-sponsored by The Women’s Economic Agenda
Project, have attended 4 family court hearings in support of our members
and recruited 6 local businesses and professionals who honor our
“Single Parent Discount Card.”
To sustain this important work I need your help. My goal is to raise
$2,500 by July 1, 2010. This will enable OSPN to file for nonprofit
status with the IRS, and continue to support single parents through our
social and educational events.
Every dollar counts and whether you can give $15 or $200 it will mean a
great deal to The Oakland Single Parents’ Network. Your donation will
be retroactively tax deductible once we obtain our nonprofit status.

Whatever you can give will be greatly appreciated and I want to thank you ahead of time for your generosity and your willingness to help me achieve my goal of growing this network.
